PreCalculus Transformations Exploration
Instruction Target I4
Why did I make it?
I made this exploration activity as an introduction to transformations of absolute value functions for my PreCalculus students during Student Teaching. I did not want to lecture students about transformations so I decided to have them explore the transformations on their own. This was students could make conjectures based on what they saw in the exploration as well as report back to the rest of the class with their findings. I anticipated this discovery learning to be more beneficial to students than direct instruction.
Where was it used?
This exploration was used in my PreCalculus class during a unit which involved students discovering different aspects of a variety of different parents functions (i.e., cubic, square root, rational exponent, etc.).
Who reviewed it and when?
This exploration activity was reviewed by my Student Teaching Cooperating Teacher in the Fall of 2014.
