Overall Reflection
This Teacher Assisting semester has been a time of professional growth for me as a future teacher. I have gained a great deal of knowledge, insights, and skills that I could never have learned out of a textbook. I have learned how to become a better teacher and I have really learned what kind of teacher I am going to be in the future. My time in the classroom this semester has helped me understand the ways in which students learn mathematics the best and how I as a teacher can help students learn mathematics in the best way possible. I have learned what works and what doesn't and how I can improve on lessons in the future. If anything, this semester has helped me reflect on my own teaching and how I can improve in order to teach students more effectively.
Throughout the process of compiling this field folio, I have been able to show off and reflect upon my best pieces of work from this semester. In choosing each of these artifacts, I put a lot of thought into how each artifact was related to and satisfied the standards. I looked closely at the details included in each standard and asked myself if the artifact completely satisfied each of the standards. After figuring out which artifacts fit best for each category, I then reflected on the impact each artifact had on my teaching. The point of this field folio is to prove that I, as a future teacher, am teaching, leading, and learning in a Democratic society. I spent a considerable amount of time going through each artifact to make sure I was reaching these goals in placing them in my field folio. I believe I have come up with a list of eight great artifacts that show that I am ready to be a teacher, leader, and learner in a Democratic society.
This field folio is only a small glimpse at what kind of teacher I am now and what kind of teacher I am going to be in the future. Although I have provided eight artifacts which demonstrate my ability to be an effective teacher, I hope to add countless more artifacts throughout my student teaching semester and beyond. I hope my work in the future is as reflective and insightful as this semester has been. This field folio has helped me realize what I am doing right as a teacher and what I need to work on. I hope to continually improve on my teaching in an attempt to reach each of the criteria for being an excellent teacher as is described in each of the INTASC standards. I feel I have improved greatly throughout my placement this semester and I hope to continually grow both personally and professionally in the future.
