Algebra 1 Literacy Activity
Planning Target P1
Why did I make it?
Creating weekly literacy activities was an important focus for my student teaching school. As often as I could, I would have students work on literacy activities that required them to think critically and explain everything they were doing using proper mathematical terminology. This activity was used in my classroom as a review of standard form as well as graphing linear equations by finding intercepts but was also a rich literacy activity that got students thinking deeply about how to solve similar problems. It also gave them some freedom to be creative and have fun with creating story problems that incorporated the mathematics.
Where was it used?
This activity was used during the linear equations unit in the Algebra 1 class I taught during student teaching in the Fall of 2014.
Who reviewed it and when?
This artifact was reviewed by my Cooperating Teacher during my student teaching semester in the Fall of 2014.
