Overall Reflection
Over the course of this student teaching placement, I feel that I have grown so much closer to the type of teacher I would like to be someday compared to where I was at the end of teacher assisting. I have been given a number of awesome opportunities over the course of this semester that have helped me grow as a teacher and as a person. This semester, I was fortunate to be placed in an AWESOME school where I was surrounded by some of the most talented students and some of the most inspiring educators ever. I have learned so much about high school students, the profession of teaching, and most importantly myself over the last couple of months.
This semester, I was placed in a Project-Based Learning school. This was a totally foreign concept to me just a mere three months ago. I had never had experience in a PBL school setting so I had no idea what to expect. Fortunately, I was placed in a classroom with one of the most experienced and talented Cooperating Teachers ever! She has taught me more about PBL and teaching in general than I could ever have imagined in the short time we have been together. She continually helps me improve my own teaching by providing valuable feedback and advise. The best part is that she is on of twelve incredible teachers at this school, each with their own unique qualities and talents that come out in their teaching. Each one of them walks into the building every day and has the most incredible passion for teaching I have ever seen. I have gained so much insights into how to teach students with compassion and I have learned so many useful techniques for engaging students from these incredible teachers.
Through professional development opportunities such as the Fire Up Conference and Grand Valley Professional Development seminars I have learned innumerable ways to improve my teaching from those who have been in the field for years. My field supervisors have given me valuable feedback on how to improve my own teaching as well. Through observation, discussion, and reflection, I now believe I am gravitating toward becoming an even better educator and feel ready as ever to have a classroom of my own!
My greatest moments of joy this semester have been from spending time with my students. Spending time each day getting to know my students has reinforced why I have gone into this profession in the first place. I was made to be a teacher and thanks to the invaluable experiences I have had over the course of the past year, I now feel I am ready to go out into the world and teach!
