PreCalculus Catapult Project (Quadratic Functions)
Instruction Target I4
Why did I make it?
This project was an adaptation of a unit project that my Student Teaching Cooperating Teacher had designed before. We decided to change it slightly from how she had done it the year before by allowing students to use different types of math-specific technology to find the trajectories of their catapults. The project was designed to give students a chance to explore various properties of quadratic functions in a fun and exciting hands-on type of project. This project was used as a supplement to students receiving instruction in the classroom. In order to have completed different parts of the project, students had to learn different concepts dealing with quadratic functions. These concepts were presented through a series of developmentally appropriate and challenging learning activities.
Where was it used?
This project was used in my pre-calculus class during Student Teaching in the Fall of 2014. The unit was used to supplement students' learning in the classroom and as a demonstration of students' learning over the course of the unit.
Who reviewed it and when?
This project was designed by my Cooperating Teacher and we worked collaboratively to make modifications to it. The project was monitored by me and my CT over the course of the unit. My Cooperating Teacher reviewed my work on this project in the Fall of 2014.
