Student Work - Varied Formats
Instruction Target I1
Why did I make it?
Each of the artifacts on this page represent show how varied formats of both student tasks and the products students create can stimulate discussion and mathematical conversations about misconceptions that arise. By having students present their projects, make a poster, or design a unique product such as a catapult, students' misconceptions about the content were easily discovered and the discussions that spurred from these misconceptions in students' works made the learning even more meaningful. This page was created to show how these various formats of student work help to uncover mathematical misconceptions and how they can stimulate meaningful conversation.
Where was it used?
These artifacts are samples from both the Algebra 1 class and the PreCalculus class I taught during student teaching in the Fall of 2014.
Who reviewed it and when?
These artifacts were created under my supervision as well as the supervision of my cooperating teacher during student teaching in the Fall of 2014. Each of these projects/products was graded by either myself or my CT.

Samples of Student Work
Example of a spreadsheet which students created as part of their food truck project in Algebra
An example of one of the presentations given by students in the video game project. This project was presented to an authentic audience and discussion ensued after each presentation. Also, mathematical discussions after these presentations uncovered misconceptions that were also addressed and cleared up.

An example of the mathematics behind the food truck project. This was presented to help people understand how their product works.
An example of the mathematics behind the video game project. This was meant to give the audience a better understanding of the research that was done into the project as well as how students worked the math portion of it. A lot of misconceptions were discovered here!
